The 33rd world number one, Frenchman Gael Monfils, defeated Victor Troicki, a Serb who is ranked 185 on the ATP, with a score of 6/3, 6/4 at the start of the tournament in Sofia.
The match lasted 59 minutes. During this time, the 32-year-old Monfils completed nine aces, made a mistake eight times in filing and realized two break points, and the 33-year-old Troicki filed right through eight times, made two double mistakes and didn’t make a single break.
Previously, the score in personal meetings was 5: 1 in favor of the Frenchman. In the second round of the Sofia Open competition, Monfils will face off with either Laslo Djere from Serbia or Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazakhstan.
