French tennis player Gilles Simon broke the barrier of the first round of the competition in Marseille, beating his compatriot Antoine Hoang – 5/7, 6/3, 6/3.

The 32nd world number, 34-year-old Gilles, recorded five breaks and seven aces, making a double mistake when serving. 23-year-old Hoang, occupying the 139th line of the world table of ranks, three times took the submission of an opponent, made two aces and four double errors.
