Jack Draper Career
Jack Draper, a professional British tennis player, was born on December 22, 2001, in Sutton, England. His parents, Roger and Nicky, both have ties to the sport. Roger was formerly the chief executive of Sport England and the head of the Lawn Tennis Association, while Nicky is a professional tennis coach. Even though Jack showed a keen interest in tennis from a young age, his parents didn’t push him to choose the sport over others. As a result, he spent his early years playing both soccer and cricket along with tennis.
Draper started to take tennis more seriously after a promising junior career, culminating in him reaching the finals of Wimbledon in 2018. Although he lost the final match to Zeng Zhongxin from Taiwan, the experience motivated him to aim higher. Despite getting a place at the prestigious University of Berkeley with his brother Ben, Draper decided to follow his passion for tennis. Balancing his academics and sports, he collected six Futures trophies in two years and began considering a move to the ATP tour level.
However, Draper’s initial stint in the ATP tour was marked with some challenges. Despite receiving a wildcard entry for the Miami Masters in 2021, he had to drop out of the tournament due to extreme heat. This setback didn’t deter him, and he used his participation in the UK Pro Series to improve his game. His performance at the ATP 500 in London, where he defeated Yannick Sinner from Italy and Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan, helped him gain popularity.
Despite a minor setback due to an ankle injury, Draper started 2022 with a bang, winning his first Challenger title at the Città di Forlì II. His winning streak continued with two more victories in the following weeks at the Città di Forlì IV and V, which propelled him to the top 200 in the world rankings. In the same year, Draper won his first Masters 1000 match at the Miami Open and secured his fourth Challenger title at Saint-Brieuc. He further improved his ranking by reaching the semifinals at Eastbourne and made his Grand Slam debut at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
Draper’s most significant breakthrough came at the Canadian Open in Montreal, where he recorded his first top-10 win by defeating third-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. After reaching the quarterfinals at the Masters 1000 level for the first time in his career, he also reached the third round at the US Open by defeating Félix Auger-Aliassime. These victories and consistent performances throughout the year led Draper to qualify for the 2022 Next Generation ATP Finals, making him the first Briton to achieve this. As of October 24, he reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 45.

Current Season
Jack Draper started his 2023 tennis season at the Adelaide International 1, where he advanced to the second round but was defeated by eighth seed Karen Khachanov. He participated in the Adelaide International 2 soon after and showed significant improvement, making it to the semifinals. Draper managed to take revenge on Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals but lost to Kwon Soon-woo in a closely contested semifinal match. His debut at the Australian Open came next, where despite a spirited performance, he lost in the first round to Rafael Nadal. Nevertheless, he reached a career-high singles ranking of 38 in January 2023.
Returning to the court in March, Draper competed in the BNP Paribas Open where he made an impressive run by defeating 24th seed Dan Evans and former world No. 1 Andy Murray. However, he had to retire from his fourth-round match due to an abdominal muscle injury. This injury also forced him to withdraw from the Miami Open to avoid exacerbating it. His debut at the French Open was also marred by injury, as a shoulder problem led to his retirement from his first-round match against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Consequently, he announced in June that he would be missing the entire grass season due to his shoulder injury
