The 16th world number one, Frenchman Gael Monfils, lost to Spaniard Albert Ramos, who occupies the 88th line of the ATP rating, with a 3/6, 1/6 score at the start of the Masters in Rome.
The meeting lasted 1 hour and 1 minute. During this time, the 32-year-old Monfils thrice filed three times, made two double faults and did not make a single break, and the 31-year-old Ramos performed one ace, never mistaken in filing and implemented four break points.
Previously, the score in personal meetings was 3-0 in favor of the Frenchman. In the second round of the tournament Internazionali BNL D’Italia Ramos will fight with Argentine Diego Schwarzman or Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka.
