The 25th racket of the world, Canadian Denis Shapovalov, beat Spaniard Marcel Granollers, who occupies the 111th line of the ATP rating, with a score of 6/4, 7/6 (1) in the second round of the Montpellier tournament.
Tennis players spent 1 hour and 22 minutes on the court. During this time, the 19-year-old Shapovalov completed six aces, twice made a mistake in the filing and realized one break point, and the 32-year-old Granollers filed four times, made three double mistakes and did not make a single break.
This was the first official meeting of athletes. In the quarterfinals of the Open Sud de France competition, Shapovalov will fight either with Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert or with Belarus, Ilya Ivashka.
