Making a list of top professional Spanish Tennis players without including Pablo Carreno Busta will make such a list incomplete.

Pablo (31) was born on the 12^th of July 1991 in Gijon, Spain; his father was an architect named Alfonso, while his mother, Maria Antonia, was a doctor. The professional Spanish tennis star started playing tennis as early as six and eventually took it as a career at 15.

He began his journey as a professional at this age when he moved to Barcelona, where he currently resides, to train at the Real Club De Tennis Barcelona. Five years later, he made his first professional appearance at the 2011 Barcelona Open Tournament.

Since then, he has significantly improved and has six career titles to his name, which include 4 Singles titles and 2 Doubles titles. He also played a crucial role in ensuring the Spanish team walked home with the 2019 Davies Cup in Spain. He idolized two professional Spanish Tennis players, Carlos Ferrero and David Ferrer.

Out of his two idols, he has been lucky to play against David Ferrer at the Auckland Open. Pablo still hopes to share the court with Carlos Ferrero sometime in the future.

Who is Pablo Carreno Busta Coach?

Pablo currently has two coaches who are fellow countrymen with the leading man, Samuel Lopez. Samuel Lopez is a former Spanish National Tennis Team member and was part of the team during their successful tours in Sydney 2000 and 2012 London Open.

He became a professional tennis coach at 22 and assisted his coach, Antonio Martinez Cascales, in establishing the JC Ferrero-Equelite Sports Academy in 1990 at Villena.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, who happens to be Pablo’s idol, was the first trainee of Samuel Lopez. Carlos moved on to mentor Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Nicolas Almagro, and Pablo Carreno Busta, and they have all successfully won an ATP title with him. He has also coached the likes of Santiago Ventura and Mariusz Fyrstenberg during his career.

He started coaching Pablo in 2016 and guided him to his first ATP title at the 2016 Wiston Salem Open, where he defeated famous Spanish tennis player Roberto Bautista Agut in the finals. Lopez played a massive role in Pablo’s success, coaching him to four individual career titles and making the top ten (10) on the Association of Tennis Professionals ranking in 2017.

Pablo currently ranks eighteen (18) (Singles category) in the world due to injuries he sustained in the past, which caused him to miss out on some big tournaments.

Speaking about his relationship with Pablo, Lopez confirmed the strong relationship between him and his trainee as he said the following words:

“This is my second year with him. We are really happy with how things are working, and the results have also been pretty good. We have a great dynamic, and I hope to continue working with him for many more years. He has a great work ethic, which makes my job much more enjoyable”.

Both of them still have a couple of years to spend together.

Second Coach of Pablo Carreno Busta

Working alongside Lopez to train Pablo Carreno is another ex-Spanish tennis player, Jose Antonio Sanchez De Luna. Jose attained a ranking of 246 during his career and did not win any title before his retirement.

Aside from working with Pablo, Jose is also the current director of an NES school tennis club in Granada, Spain, and works with several organizations to establish Youth Sports Education Programmes in Spain.

Pablo has not recorded significant achievement since he replaced the former personal trainee, Ceasar Fabregas. However, because Pablo started the year as a finalist during the Barcelona Open, which the player lost to fellow Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is a pointer to possible future feats.

The Coaching Team

Pablo usually speaks about his developmental benefits from being part of Spain’s National Team. He pointed out the impact the likes of his idol, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and national team captain, Coach Conchita, have had on his development.

The rising tennis star has also hinted at the contribution of Rafael Nadal, who he has often played alongside when representing Spain has also had to his developments.

Former Coaches of Pablo Carreno Busta

Researches show that Pablo was under the tutelage of a man named Ceasar Fabregas, who was working with Samuel Lopez before Jose Antonio Sanchez De Luna came on board. Unfortunately, there are not many records about Ceasar Fabregas, who seems to have gone off-grid following his coaching relationship with Pablo.

However, from the little information we gathered, we found that Ceasar is also a Spaniard and a former tennis player born in 1978 who did not have a successful tennis career. During his career, he attained the highest rank of #1446 and did not record any career title.

Pablo was his first trainee, although there were other trainees under him from the Equelite Sports Academy, which the coach might have left before ending his role as one of Pablo’s coaches. He maintained a close relationship with Pablo, which is not surprising as the tennis star has quite a good relationship with his coaches and praised them regularly for their efforts.

In 2017, when Pablo was asked during an interview about his coaches (Lopez and Fabregas), he said:

“We work so hard about to be focused all the time, to be very aggressive, to try to dominate all the points. They helped me a lot all the time during this year and a half, working with them,” he said.

“When I start with them, Samuel (Lopez) and Cesar (Fabregas) teach me how to be tough mentally like this, and maybe Juan Carlos Ferrero helped me a lot also. I think they are working very well with me, very hard. And when you play matches, and you have more experience finally, no, you are the best player, no?”
