The Norwegian Casper Ruud is steadily moving into the top 10 of the ATP world ranking, having already reached the 11th position. In July, Casper made a hat trick by winning three tournaments in a row. First came Casper Ruud at No. 11 Masters in Bastad, then Swiss Gstaad and then the latest in this super-series event at Kitzbühel in Austria.
Last week Ruud did well at a tournament in Toronto. Casper was able to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament, where he was defeated by the Greek tennis player, Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Ruud traveled to Cincinnati this week to play in another Masters tournament. The Norwegian was the No. 8 seed in the tournament and missed the first round. He faced Toronto finalist Reilly Opelka in the second round. In a tight match, Ruud only managed to pull out a win on a tiebreaker in the third set.
“It was a fun 100th win. 7/6 in the third set is always an amazing feeling, especially against an athlete like Opelka. The match could have been turned around by a couple of points. It was great to get my 100th win in that situation. I need to win 16 more matches to break my dad’s record for wins. I hope to win 100 more, but there are no guarantees in tennis,” – Casper said.
Casper Ruud won his 100th career match and 38th of the season. He is tied with Serb Novak Djokovic for the number of matches won in the season and trails Britain’s Cameron Norrie (41 matches) and Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas (46 matches).

In the next round, the young talent from Norway will face Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who knocked out Frances Tiafoe in the second round. Schwartzman leads 4-1 in the head-to-head. But Casper got his first win over the Argentine in Monte Carlo this season. So we’ll see another great match.
Ruud commented that many people underestimated his playing ability on hard.
“I know a lot of people doubted my ability to play hard, so I thought I’d leave a little message. Actually, playing on hard is fun. Of course, I’m doing great on the mainland, but my main success at the Slams is the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open. So the hard is good for me too. I’m feeling pretty confident right now,” said Casper.
