British tennis player Andy Murray commented on the decision to play at the tournament in Winston-Salem.
“I decided to play here before flying home. I hope to play more than one match here and try to win the first single match after the operation. Now I have very low expectations. I do not think about winning titles yet, I just try to play more matches.
I hope that by the end of the year I will be able to get closer to my best level. When I was finally able to play golf and walk dogs without pain, I began to do this more often. I just started going out more often, before I didn’t want to. The constant pain that I experienced for a couple of years discouraged my last desire to do anything.
After the Australian Open, when my career was in limbo, someone constantly supported me. People came up, encouraged, told to continue. After the announcement of a possible career end, Andrey Rublev was one of the first people I came across in the locker room. I didn’t really know him then, but he hugged me tightly and told me to keep trying. There have been a lot of such moments in the last six months, “Tour’s press service quoted Andy as saying.
