Russian Andrey Rublev commented on his victory over the Swiss Roger Federer in Cincinnati.
“For me, this is the biggest and most emotional victory. Roger is a real champion and legendary tennis player. Every day he is faced with tremendous pressure. Public attention is constantly directed to him, he constantly needs to confirm his status, and he has been doing this for many years. Amazing.
During the match, I tried not to pay attention to the score, the opponent and my team. I tried to relax and it helped. I forgot to apply for this competition, so I shouldn’t have to play Cincinnati at all. Then I still got into the qualification.
At the start of the selection, I was lucky because Tomich starred. Then I beat Mikhail Kukushkin and Nikoloz Basilashvili. And then I outplayed two legendary athletes at once – Stan Wawrinka and Roger. This is unbelievable, ”the ATP press service quoted Rublev as saying.
