Roger Federer was born August 8, 1981 in Basel, Switzerland. His father Robert is German-Swiss and his mother Lynette du Rand is South African. Roger has an older sister, Diane.
Federer currently resides in Dubai and Switzerland. The tennis player began his professional career in 1998, reaching the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament the same season. The next year he became the youngest player ever to be included in the top 100 world rankings and won his first title at the Challenger. Two years after starting his career, he took bronze at the Sydney Olympics.
Federer speaks four languages – German, French, German-Swiss and English. He calls Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker and Pete Sampras his childhood idols. Roger is actively involved in charity work, having set up his own Roger Federer Foundation in 2003. He describes golf, soccer, skiing and video games as his hobbies.
