Garbiñe Muguruza Blanco was born on October 8, 1993 in Caracas, Venezuela. Her mother Scarlett Blanco is from Venezuela and her father Jose Antonio is from Spain. Garbine has two older brothers, Asier and Igor. Muguruza moved to Spain at the age of six.
She picked up a racket for the first time at the age of three and began her professional career in 2011. In 2012, she successfully debuted at the WTA tournament in Miami, where she reached the fourth round. That same season she entered the Top 100 world rankings for the first time and made it to the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, the US Open.
Her favorite surface is hard. Her tennis idols are Serena Williams and Pete Sampras.
Garbine speaks two languages – Spanish and English. In her free time, she likes cooking, reading and listening to music.
