Dayana Yastremska was born on May 15, 2000 in the Ukrainian city of Odesa. She first picked up a racket at the age of five. It was her grandfather, Ivan Yastremska, who took her to tennis.
Diana won her first children’s title at the age of seven. She started her professional career in 2016. Then she won her debut title at an ITF tournament in Brazil and entered the Top 500.
In 2018, she qualified for the Australian Open for the first time but failed to qualify for the main event. At Wimbledon, Yastremska also stopped at the qualifying stage. However, she then made her way into the main draw of the New Haven Premier, which earned her a spot in the Top 100.
