Barbora Strycova was born on March 28, 1986 in Plzeň (former Czechoslovakia). Her parents are Indřich and Ilona Strycova. The athlete also has a sister, Ivona.
Barbora first picked up a racket at the age of five. And at first she was also engaged in figure skating. She started her professional career in 2003. Strykova drew the public’s attention as a junior player, winning the Australian Open in 2002 and 2003.
In the 2002 season, the Czech won her first ITF tournament title and played for the Russian national team in the Fed Cup, posting two wins for the national team. The following year she made her first Grand Slam main draw at Wimbledon. In 2004, Barbora did quite well at WTA tournaments and was included in the Top 100 world rankings.
Her favorite surfaces are grass and clay. Her idol in tennis is Steffi Graf. In her spare time prefers swimming, skiing and snowboarding.
