Romanian tennis player Simona Halep commented on the victory over Cori Gauff in the fourth round of Wimbledon.
“It was a great match. She could very soon become a strong player. I was playing juniors at 15 — she’s amazing at that age in the fourth round of Wimbledon. Cori performed well. If she continues in the same spirit, she will soon be in the top ten.
Gauff has a very strong backhand and the pitch is also very good. She moves perfectly. With her height, running fast is not so easy. With Cori no one will be easy. If she continues to play like this, she quickly gains confidence and starts winning big tournaments.
I believe that for tennis her success is important: Gauff showed juniors that everything is possible. This motivates them, instills in them the confidence that everyone has a chance. What she has already done for tennis is excellent.
Someone told me today that since I began to play more and more with juniors, it means that I am not so young. In about three years I, apparently, only such rivals will be. Need to get used to. I motivate myself by the fact that I am still here, still beating up the young, even though they play relaxedly and fearlessly. They have nothing to lose, but for me it is an interesting challenge, “the Tour press service quotes Halep.
