Swiss Roger Federer commented on his decision to perform on clay for the first time since 2016.
“I never planned to miss three Roland Garros. In 2016 I had to do it. In 2017, I played on clay for a few days, but then I decided to consult with the team. I had a wonderful season, and I didn’t know how my knee was will react to a change in coverage, but then I won the Australian Open and the Masters in Indian Wells and Miami and I wasn’t sure I wanted to play on clay.
In 2018, I was not in the mood to play on clay. I needed a long break. And this season, I decided that I didn’t need such a big pause, so I gladly agreed to play in clay tournaments, “Federer said to the Tennis World USA.
