Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov has already renewed his record at Wimbledon, he managed to reach the third round of the competition. His second-round opponent Pablo Andujar withdrew before the start of the match. Shapovalov advanced to the third round without a fight.
Previously, Denis’ best result at Wimbledon was the second round of the competition, which he reached in 2018. Then Denis was not allowed into the third round by French tennis player Benoit Paire, who beat the Canadian in four sets.
The match against the public favorite
In the third round of the competition, the Canadian will play against the two-time triumphant of the local competition, Andy Murray.
Shapovalov commented on his upcoming match against Andy Murray in an interview with Tennis Majors.
“It will be a great experience. The first time I’m going to be on the center court at Wimbledon. When I was a kid, I dreamed of one day playing with Murray in the big arena.
I used to follow his matches at the tournament. It was nice to see that Andy was back in great shape and moving great. He looked like the tennis player he was a couple of years ago.
Anyway, I’m not going to get hung up on playing one of my idols. For me, it’s going to be another matchup against a really strong opponent.
That said, I have great respect for Andy and his accomplishments. I think that’s quite normal”

The opponents haven’t met each other yet and don’t know what to expect from each other. Shapovalov had a solid showing at the London tournament before Wimbledon and reached the semifinals. There he managed to beat Feliciano Lopez and Francis Tiafoe, followed by a loss to Cameron Norrie.
At Wimbledon, the Canadian tennis player started with a victory over Philipp Kohlschreiber. The match was difficult, Denis managed to win only in the fifth set.
After that, Shapovalov had an extra day off. His second-round opponent, Spaniard Pablo Andujar was unable to appear in the match due to injury.
Murray, meanwhile, reached the third round of the Grand Slam for the first time since having had a hip replacement. That’s quite a feat, to be sure. In the first round, Andy beat Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia despite all the fears.
Then he had a tough win against Oscar Otte. The two-time Wimbledon winner had the strength to play five sets on the court. It’s hard to say what will happen next, but at this point, Murray is really in optimal shape.
It just had to be…
