The difficult period for Dayana Yastremska continued during the off-season. The Ukrainian player, who during the season did not manage to find the right feeling with coach Sasha Bajin, announced via Instagram that she tested positive for COVID-19 at the moment of her arrival in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.
“Hello everyone, it was a difficult time for me. I flew to Dubai in good spirits, two days ahead of my team, and guess what? When I arrived everything was fine, the result on COVID-19 was negative, and two days later I got sick!
I immediately went into self-isolation and didn’t even have time to meet the coaches! The symptoms were very strange, I felt really really bad! After certain tests, I will slowly start to get into the training process….
I want to thank my doctors in the Ukraine who took care of me! I want to thank my team for support, help and being by my side! Guys, be careful!”
Yastremska
Many tennis players have chosen this place as the initial stop for their winter preparation, so much so that the 2021 WTA season should start in nearby Abu Dhabi. Yastremska’s participation in this tournament however is not at risk: as she herself said in fact she is now better and ready to return to the court.
