Russian Maria Sharapova commented on the decision of the British Andy Murray to complete a career this season.
“Men have a very selfish attitude about equality. They didn’t particularly support us at Wimbledon five to seven years ago. It’s a pity. Andy is the exception rather than the rule. But he can change the situation. He has tremendous weight with tennis, especially in his country. People are usually shocked by the news that a player of this level is leaving the sport in its prime. It seems that he loses something vital. But I take it all differently. Yes, tennis really takes a significant part of our lives, and we want to achieve the greatest success.
Men have more opportunities in this regard, because they can play longer. But after leaving sport, life does not end. There are many beautiful things – family, children, business. So the completion of a career is not a sad event, but an exciting one, ”Sharapova told the Simple News.
