The Adelaide tournament begins Jan. 3 and runs through Jan. 9. The competition takes place on hard courts at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre
The tennis players will compete for a prize pool of $703,580. Last season's prize money was less -$535,530
In the first round we will have a rematch, one of the great finals in 2021. Paula Badosa will face Victoria Azarenka
Ash Barty will be making her first tournament appearance since the US Open, she ended her season early after the event in New York
In addition to Barty in the tournament will participate four more tennis players from the top 10 ranking of the WTA: Sabalenka, Swiatek, Sakkari, Badosa
The top two seeds, Barty and Sabalenka have byes into the second round
Barty could open her season against Gauff if the American wins her opening match against a qualifier
In the first two weeks of the season, Adelaide will host two WTA tournaments of different categories. The first will be the WTA 500, followed by the WTA 250.
Many top tennis players withdrew from the tournament for various reasons. Bencic, Jabeur, Krejcikova, Muguruza, Pliskova will not play in Adelaide.
